Day 25. Rain Stopped Play!

We are tucked up in Bozeman, Montana and had been hoping to ride around the area. Unfortunately, our stretch of fine weather has ended and today is cold and rainy!! So we have had a fine breakfast at one of the local eateries and this is a good opportunity to recap our travels so far:

Days 1 to 9 were spent getting to Colorado (this includes one lay day). We covered a total of 2,545 miles to get to Broomfield.
Our route is outlined on Google Earth:

Perhaps not the most efficient route but as we had a very different route planned until the day before we left, we stuck with our initial, Northerly, route for the first 4 days and then struck off diagonally down to Colorado.

We then spent the next 12 days in Colorado & Utah having a blast zigzagging across mountains and high desert. We travelled an additional 1,706 miles during this time. Our routes involved some backtracking but mainly along very scenic byways.

Having studied our map it is interesting to note that in this time we crossed 20 Mountain Passes and climbed 1 peak. In addition, we crossed the Continental Divide 7 times. Our total elevation gain going to the crest of the passes was 219,861 feet or 41.6 miles!! The equivalent of climbing to the top of Mount Everest 7 1/2 times - Wow!!

  1. Hi Vicky and Tom,

    As usual, wonderful pics.

And Vicky, thanks for the narrative and the map. You make it interesting with your fun facts and figures (i.e. age of the petroglyphs, the Wiki re: the million dollar highway, crossing the continental divide seven times). I'm not able to visit the blog frequently, but I always like to catch up with all your entries.

Tom, thanks for the post cards. The girls were excited to retrieve them from the mail box!

    Love,
    Jim

    1. Jim, Thanks for your comments. It's nice to know that someone out there is reading this. I like to keep a record of what we are up to as it always fun to read back once we are finished. We are having a great time - we don't want it to end.
