Day 38. King's Canyon, CA

Another early start and up the road into the park. This time we rode past all the giant Sequoias and resisted the temptation to stop and hug them! Today we had set our sights on a more distant goal. We rode through Sequoia Park and onwards, heading East. It was a cool, clear morning and the sun was just beginning to rise above the mountain tops. As we rose higher we could see the crest of the canyon in the distance.

Then the road began to twist and turn, as we have become accustomed to on this trip. Now we could really see the canyon we were headed to. The road can be seen curling around the side of the hillside on the right.

The walls of the canyon were truly impressive as we wound our way into it.

Finally, we were within the canyon itself and were struck by how few people were here. Indeed we almost didn't come this far ourselves and were so happy we did. The scenery was amazing and actually reduced me to tears at one point!

Here is my lovely Tom who is the most amazing traveling companion anyone could wish for!
We walked up a short trail to see the Roaring Falls

and then ate lunch at the foot of the Grizzly Falls
and gazed across the canyon, truly appreciating our good fortune once again.
