Day 48. Crossing the Big Horn Mountains.

The snowy front continued to blow through overnight but fortunately not affecting Cody itself. However, on checking the Wyoming Transportation Department app, we could see that the routes over the Bighorn Mountains to the east were affected. We had already planned on taking the easier of the three roads but even that had ice and snow on it at 7:00 am! Therefore we took our time loading up the bikes and set off with a back-up route planned if the road didn't clear by the time we got to it. We had a nice breakfast in the town of Greybull and sure enough by the time we had finished, the updated travel information showed us that the ice had cleared and we were good to go - phew!

It was a spectacular day with clear blue skies giving us dramatic views of the amazing scenery.

Before long we could see the Big Horn Mountains looking rather snowy!

There was much discussion between us as we approached as to how snowy and how cold would it be?! We soon got the answer:

Yes it was chilly!! Thank goodness for heated jackets and gloves.

It was quite surreal motoring alongside snow covered fields.

Once we started descending the scenery became greener again but no less spectacular

Finally, we were almost down into the valley east of the mountains, we paused to look back from where we had come.....

What a ride!
