Days 47. A day in Cody, WY

As forecast, a cold front swept through last night cloaking Yellowstone Park in snow and closing the access roads. We were relieved that we had made the call not to stay as we would surely have been stuck there. All day we heard folks' tales of woe as their travel plans had been disrupted and they couldn't get into the Park. We felt fortunate that we had the luxury of a spare day to stay put where we were and not have to take any risks sticking to an agenda and traveling on snowy roads.

We were happy to spend the day in this western town. Named "Cody" by William F. Cody, "Buffalo Bill" himself, as he established the town in 1895. We spent most of the morning learning all about this larger than life character.

It was a fascinating visit and a very good museum. A great way to spend a cold, stormy day!
Cody built this hotel to honor his daughter and it is still a popular place to stay today.

They love their Buffalos in this town - this is one of many whimsically painted statues seen throughout the streets.
