Days 41 & 42. Two days in Tahoe!

Due to ongoing fires in Oregon and Idaho we have once agin revised our plans. We had been planning on heading to northern California then crossing southern Oregon into Idaho as part of our return route. Reviewing the fire maps and air quality we could see that there was still too much fire activity to be able to enjoy these areas. So plan B was hatched!

We found a lovely place to stay in Tahoe Vista at the north end of Lake Tahoe. Because it is shoulder season we got 3 nights for the price of 2 and we were very happy to take advantage of the deal. We unpacked all our stuff, kicked back and enjoyed all that this area has to offer. Wednesday was a beautiful day - blue skies and perfect temperatures. After walking down to the lake we decided we must get out ON it!! In short order we had rented a couple of kayaks and set off.

We had a great morning and really enjoyed ourselves, almost reaching the Nevada State line in our little vessels! After returning our craft we walked over to King's Beach, had a lovely cup of coffee  and hit the grocery store to buy stuff for supper in our room - we have a lovely room overlooking the lake and sometimes it is nice to chill out and self cater, especially with a good bottle of wine!

Thursday was again another lovely day although it started a little cloudy. We hopped on the bikes to Tahoe City and stopped for coffee to make plans for the rest of the day.

We ultimately decided we needed to take advantage of all the bike paths that run around the lake. So we hopped onto two pedal powered bikes for the rest of the morning.
Note the long pants because apparently I have yet to learn that sunblock only works if you apply it to the skin and that simply carrying it around doesn't do any good. I got very sunburned kayaking yesterday, despite having packed a large tube of hi-factor sunscreen screen in our dry bag!

We found a great spot for lunch nestled amongst the sugar pines on the lake shore.

And after enjoying our lunch it was time to pedal back to Tahoe City and our big bikes!

Tahoe and indeed California has been very good to us.
We have spent 17 days in this wonderful state and have enjoyed every minute of it. From the amazing Pacific Coast to Mill Valley and the wonderful hospitality of the Mount family, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, from Wine Country to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks we have had the most amazing experiences, far surpassing anything we could have hoped for. We love California!!

  1. California truly is a beautiful state! Thanks again for all the pics and commentary. While not there in person, I still get to see things I would never otherwise see.

    Love,
    Jim
