Day 9. To the Black Hills of South Dakota

After sleeping soundly in our lovely cabin, we got up at sunrise and headed back down the Badlands loop road and were rewarded with empty roads and new vistas. The sky was a bit cloudy and there were rain showers spotted in the distance but we stayed dry.

We met the owner of this bike at one of the overlooks, I commented that he had "quite a bike", to which he replied "Honey, that's no bike that's my home"!!

We were very careful where we trod.

Leaving The Badlands, headed West.

Before we knew it we were stopped in our tracks gazing at this.

Just breathtaking to see it in person and imagine the incredible feat of engineering, to say nothing of the artistry that went into sculpting the four Presidents into  the rockface of Mount Rushmore.

And there it is, looking as though it was finished just yesterday - amazing.
