Day 36. A Monumental Journey

Saturday, September 13th

After getting up to see the sun rise over the Grand Canyon we packed up and set off for new destinations. Immediately we found ourselves perched on the rim of a descent onto a vast plain rimmed by Vermillion Cliffs.

We rode down to the foot of the cliffs and headed across the plain

The scenery immediately started to change

Before long we were crossing the Navajo Bridge across the Colorado River - the river responsible for the formation of the Grand Canyon many, many years ago.

Of course we had to get off and have a look

Having crossed the Colorado River we passed into the Navajo Nation and began to see what we had come for on the horizon

Before long we had arrived - Monument Valley!

We checked into our Hotel for the night - the only full service hotel in Monument Valley

And found that the view from the balcony of our room lived up to it's name

We watched the sun set and then had a very nice dinner in the dining room, discovering delicious new foods such as Navajo fry bread, traditionally eaten with honey - very yummy indeed.
