Days 28 and 29. To Lake Tahoe and around Lake Tahoe

Friday, Sept 5th.

We left Chester and had another lovely ride through National Forests climbing up and sailing down some nice mountain roads.

We had a nice coffee stop in Graeagle, a lovely planned recreation area.
Too bad it was too early for lunch - the Hot Dogs smelled delicious!

We continued on our way and soon arrived at our destination for the weekend:

Stunning Lake Tahoe! We rode around the Eastern side of the Lake, briefly passing through a portion of Nevada, before arriving at South Lake Tahoe and our Inn for the next two nights.

Saturday, 6th September.
We slept in later than usual and had a nice relaxed start to the day, treating ourselves to Breakfast at a nearby local hangout - delicious eggs and bacon! Feeling full, we hopped on the bikes and set out around the Western side of the lake. This was a much nicer ride than the Eastern side with a narrow twisty 2 lane road as opposed to a 4 lane highway. The views were spectacular:

The Lake is beautiful, surrounded by mountains and with lovely forested shores. Of course there are developments and communities at some parts, which one would expect. I can see how this is a very popular Summer destination. Several ski resorts were also visible in the surrounding mountains, making this truly a 4 season place. We meandered up to Tahoe City towards the Northern end of the Lake. We found this a very pleasant spot and probably would have liked to stay here in preference to South Lake Tahoe which is more developed and "touristy". Of course we are tourists ourselves so we cannot complain when we find ourselves surrounded by others enjoying their vacation!

Another stunning day. We head out again tomorrow. Unfortunately, it seems that Hurricane Norbert, currently off the Pacific Baha Coast of California, maybe impacting our weather in the form of "left over moisture" which is predicted to cause heavy rain and possible flooding in the Southwestern desert! We shall see!
