Day 2. To Pembroke, Ontario, Canada

We awoke, as expected, to cloudy skies but at least the pavement was dry after some torrential rains last night. We were up and off earlier today with the kickstands up at 7:20 am. The first order of the day was a trip down memory lane as we road up the mountain road to Mt. Mansfield. We have had many a ski weekend here so it was fun to see everything all green and luscious. The tops of the mountains were covered in heavy cloud so it was quite dramatic. After passing the ski area we ascended the steep and twisty route up to Smuggler's Notch (elev. 3,640 ft).

Our route took us West, then North until we could head West over the Northern end of Lake Champlain. We crossed into New York State at Rouses Point by which time we felt we had earned a nice latte. Oh! and throw in a breakfast sandwich as well!

Rain gear being tested!

Very nice Latte's at the Lakeside Coffee Shop

Fortified we continued our westward trek into darkening skies. We started the day in rain gear and pretty much kept it on all day. We ran into a few heavy showers but they didn't last too long so we were able to make good progress  towards our destination.

We crossed the border into Canada, hit the highways and made good time to our final destination, Pembroke, Ontario. We hopped off the highway to our hotel for the night. Good progress was made today.

  1. Hi Tom & Vicky,

Started following your trip this morning. I'm trying to track route 2 on Google maps, but it's not easy.

Safe travels. Bonnie, Jillian and Natalie say so too.

    Love,
    Jim
