The Adventure Begins

Day 1.

For some reason we didn't get the kickstands up until 9:45 am. Unusually late for us. Normally we would be on the road by 8:00 at the latest. But, we had a short day planned to ease into the trip so there was no rush to get going. Having anxiously studied the weather forecast all week, we were afraid it would rain today but although it was cloudy when we got up, the roads were dry and there was no precipitation on the radar. Finally the bikes were loaded and ready to go:

My bike, the blue one, has the all important picnic bag strapped onto the rack!

It was a warm, humid day and before long the sun was breaking through the clouds. We rode along Route 2, heading West. We will continue on this road until Montana! After a couple of hours, we left our home State of Maine:

As we headed into the mountains we stopped for coffee in Gorham, there is a great coffee shop there that we always stop at when we pass through.

Tom, as you can see is very loyal to his brand!

We stopped in the lovely town of Lunenburg, VT for our picnic lunch. We sat at a picnic table in the town park and it was very pleasant until a big black cloud started dropping a few rain drops!! We got going in short order and the rain immediately stopped.

By 3:00 pm we reached our destination, Stowe, Vermont. We love this bustling Ski Town, which seemed even busier today than it is in the winter. We made ourselves at home in our lovely room in The Butler House Inn, had a walk around town, went for a jog on the Rec path and had a quick dinner! Phew!! We're both tired now and will turn in early.

Mileage for the day: 204.
