After disembarking we made our way through some fairly busy suburbs until we re-joined our old friend US highway 2. This time we were heading East!! Before long we were on the Cascade scenic loop and crossing the Cascade Mountains again through Stevens Pass. Unfortunately there was a lot of road work and traffic delays so we never got chance to stop and take photos - but the road was spectacular!
After about 4 hours of riding we pulled into the Town of Leavenworth. A colleague at work had told me about this place and highly recommended stopping here. He was right! This town was originally incorporated in 1906, was a timber community and became the headquarters for the Great Northern Railroad. After the railroad relocated the town was going bust and struggling to survive. In the early 60's the town adopted a Bavarian Theme and re-invented itself. Judging by the bustle and vibe here today - it is a successful transformation.

We enjoyed a walk around town, finding it just a little bizarre to have such a Bavarian theme going on knowing it was a set up, back in the day. We thought we had woken up in Disney World! Then it was time for dinner and we were spoiled for choice - with a selection of Beer Gardens and Kellers. We enjoyed a beer (or two) at a the local brewpub - very good.
We had the best seat in the house!!
And enjoyed our beers - I had a German Chocolate Cake Ale - delicious!
We had dinner in a rather authentic "Keller" accompanied by an accordion player.
A great visit!
